Within astrology and looking at your chart there are some details that can really help you understand yourself, and the world better through these details. These details are called “Aspects.” Aspects are basically when one planet makes a connection to another planet and they can either help or hinder one another based on element, quality, and polarity. There are 5 aspects that I would like to discuss: Conjunction, Sextile, Square, Trine, and Opposition.
Conjunction
The way I love to describe Conjunction as is when both planets’ energies are in unison with one another, it is when two become one and they fuse essentially. Conjunctions happen when two planets are usually within 0-8 degrees of each other in the same sign. With this fusion of energy, it can work really well if the planets are harmonious with the sign it is in, however, this aspect can still cause some tension if one of the planet's energy is overpowering the other planet.
Sextile
The way sextiles work is via two signs apart, Aries will be sextile Gemini, and Taurus will be sextile Cancer. The easiest way to memorize this is via the elements, air and fire will usually sextile each other, and Earth and Water will sextile each other too. Unless they are opposite signs then the opposition will take place. This aspect is said to be a harmonious aspect the energies help each other out in a positive way. Think of it as a waterfall with how effortlessly it flows. However, this is not always a good thing. If something is too easy then this can cause some complacent wherever this takes place, within the chart.
Square
The way Squares work is via three signs apart, Libra will be square Capricorn and Scorpio will be square Aquarius. Squares can cause tension to take place, it’s where things may be difficult for the person and how too. Though this placement may cause some hardships if they learn how to deal with it then they can have great benefits as squares can give great rewards for mastering them.
Trine
Trines are similar to sextiles however they occur when the planet is making a connection to a planet in the same element, Cancer will trine Scorpio and Pisces. Trines make for the energy to easily be able to help one another due to the similarity in nature both planets are in. However similar to sextiles this can cause too much relaxation within the area it is in and can cause problems to easily arrive due to the easygoing nature.
Oppositions
Oppositions only occur with sister signs, which are just signs opposite of one another, I like to describe these energies as clashing with one another due to the similarity of the signs however they have different ways of doing things. Aries and Libra both desire Justice and fairness however due to the fiery nature of airs and the peaceful nature of Libra they both have different ways of going about bringing peace which is where the conflict arises
